Covid-19: 103 in ICU as 218 test positive in last 24 hours

Kenya on Monday, June 21, recorded 218 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 2,577 raising the country's caseload to 179,293.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 8.5 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,907,096.

Out of the new patients, 117 are male, whereas 101 are female, with the youngest carrier aged seven-month-old, and the oldest aged 85.

Of the new cases, 12 are foreigners, while the rest were Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi lead with 119, Siaya 26, Kisii 20, Uasin Gishu 15, Homa Bay 10, Nakuru 6, Kajiado and Kakamega 4 cases each, Makueni and Nyandarua 2 cases each.

Mombasa, Migori, Nandi, Vihiga, Bomet, Kericho, Kiambu, Kisumu, Laikipia and Machakos a case each.

In Nairobi, the 119 cases are from Kibra (16), Westlands (14), Dagoretti North (12), Roysambu (11), Starehe (10), Kasarani and Langata (7) case each, Mathare (6), Embakasi West, Makadara and Ruaraka (5) cases each, Dagoretti South Embakasi Central, Embakasi East and South (4) cases each, Kamukunji (3) and Embakasi North (2).

In Siaya, the 26 cases are from Alego-Usonga (12), Gem (9), Ugunja (4) and Bondo (1).

In Kisii, the 20 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (14), Bobasi, Nyaribari Chache and South Mugirango (2) cases each.

The total recoveries so far stand at 122,965 after 261 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 167 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 94 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 89,132 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 33, 833 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,074 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 5,4638 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and three (103) patients are in the ICU, 33 of whom are on ventilatory support and 51 on supplemental oxygen. 19 patients are under observation.

Another 118 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 108 of them in general wards and 10 in High Dependency Units.

Vaccination

As of today, 1,187,663 persons have so far received their first dose against the Covid-19 in the country.

Of the total, the first doses stand at 995,579 while the second doses are 192,093.

The uptake of the second dose by priority groups are as follows, health workers (52,830), those aged above 58 (52,041), others (51,463), teachers (22,189) while security officers are (14,020).
