Kenya has recorded 356 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours raising the caseload to 163,976.

In its daily briefing, the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says the new infections recorded are from a sample size of 4,424.

The positivity rate in the country has risen to 8 per cent compared to yesterday’s 3.6 per cent.

The total number of tests carried out in the country now stands at 1,725,546.

From the new cases, 329 are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners. 200 are male while 156 are female with the youngest being a two-year-old child and the oldest is 93 years.

In the last 24 hours, 129 people have recovered from the virus. Of these 64 are from the home-based care program and 65 were from various health facilities around the country.

Since the first case of the virus was reported in Kenya, people who have beaten the virus now stand at 113,057. The home-based care has so far recorded 82,203 recoveries while those who have recovered from various hospitals are 30,854.

21 deaths were reported with the total number of deaths standing at 2,928. CS Kagwe says three occurred in the last 24 hours while 16 occurred on diverse dates in the last one month while two deaths were recorded after an audit of records.

1,105 people are currently admitted to various health facilities in the country with 4,749 undergoing care in the home-based program. 128 are in the Intensive Care Unit: 23 are on ventilator support and 76 on supplemental oxygen while 29 are under observation.

As of Tuesday, the number of people vaccinated countrywide stood at 921,546. Out of these 281,704 are aged 58 years and above. Health workers who have been vaccinated are 161,271, teachers are 144,434, security officers who have been inoculated are 77,772 and other people who have gotten the jab are 256,365.
