KIGOCHI RULES LIMURU: Eddie, Mundia win Standard Classic Golf

Eddie Kigochi carded 20 stableford points on both nines to triumph during the third leg of the Standard County Classic golf at Limuru Golf and Country club.

Kigochi, who was enjoying home ground advantage, was in a tiptop shape as he prevailed over a large field of over 286 golfers.

Handicap 18 Kigochi and the rest of the team braved the rains that punctuated the day-long event.

“I had a great outing on the course. My driver behaved well, my irons were super and my putting was A1. I played with a new four ball which I guess broke the jinx and it’s a great feeling,” said a elated Kigochi.

“Our appeal as Standard Group to various golf clubs in the country is we need to map out a sustainable partnership that will focus on the growth and development of the sport through its introduction to schools.

“This can be done by putting up of golf academies in various courses across the country,” said Orlando Lyomu, Standard Group Finance Director, who is also the Group’s Chief Operating Officer.

“This way, we believe we shall be able to raise the profile of the gentleman’s sport and make it more respectable, thus uplifting the status of the game.”

Playing off handicap 12, Julius Wokabi was the Men winner on a score of 39 stableford points, as Dennis Maara, playing off handicap three, finished second on a score of 36 stableford points.

Edgar Wambaa was third on a score of 35 stableford points, beating N. Mwebesa and Cyrus Kamau on count back to the prize.

Former Kenya one and 2015 GOTY player of the year John Karichu +1,  was the Gross winner on 33 stableford points, edging out Francis Kimani, who garnered 32 stable ford points.

S G Mundia, playing off handicap 12, carded 32 stableford points to don the Ladies Medal, with handicap 15 Grace Kimeria finishing second on a score of 32 stableford points.

Single handicap J Lerjima won the Guest prize on a score of 36 stable ford points, while Z Wachira, playing off handicap four, bagged was second on a score of 35 stableford points.

Brian Njoroge, playing off handicap seven, was the Junior winner after he returned a score of 33 stableford points.

Commercial Manager Salim Bwika, playing off handicap 28, won the Staff prize on a score of 27 stableford points. Bwika wrestled the prize from Mose Sammy (Editorial Department) and Fred Kirui of Commercial on count back.

Cyrus Maina won the first Nine prize on a score of 20 stableford points, as S. Kanyi won the second Nine prize on 19 stableford points.

Frankie Gichuru won Nearest to Pin prize in the Ladies’ category, while John Karume was Nearest to Pin winner in the men’s category.

Hillary Kipkosgei won Men’s Longest Drive prize, while Zipporah Wachira won in ladies’ category.

In the commercials, 16 Two clubs were recorded with each golfer getting Eight golf balls.
