Last season’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League runners-up Kakamega Homeboyz have parted ways with head coach Bernard Mwalala and his entire technical bench.

Mwala was fired alongside his assistant Erick Muranda, and the club's technical director Eliud Omukuya.

The former Harambee Stars attacker has been at the helm of the Western-based side for the past season.

He led Homeboyz to a second-place finish in the troubled 2021-2022 FKF Premier League behind 13-time champions Tusker on goal difference.

This was Mwalala's second season with the Kakamega-based club having deputised Nicholas Muyoti in the 2020/21 season.

When Muyoti left for Nairobi City Stars at the start of last season, Mwalala was elevated to the head coach role.

Mwalala, 37, also coached coastal side Bandari between 2018 and 2020 leading the club to two second-place finishers behind champions Gor Mahia.

According to speculations, Mwalala was shown the door after throwing away the opportunity to win the maiden Football Kenya Federation Premier League title.

Homeboyz bottled the chance to dethrone Tusker last season as the outfit was enjoying a twelve-point gap between them and the Brewers with less than eight matches remaining in the campaign.
