Palaver

Is former UN Secretary General an idle man? Agriculture Minister William Ruto recently said the Chief Mediator’s frequent visits in the country whenever things go wrong portray him as the idle man.

Well, the idle man is in town and guess who lined up to meet him? The two principals, the Speaker, religious leaders, civil society and several other top personalities.

Apparently, we’re a nation whose top brass readily spares invaluable time to meet "an idler! or Ruto’s talk was idle indeed. The verdict is yours.

Clarity by any name sounds as good. Mobile telephone company Zain prides itself as the clearest network but it has an arduous task to convince customers that its services remain unperturbed despite regular name change.

At first it was Kencell, then Celtel, then Zain and now India’ Bharti Airtel has bought the company. Could it be Bharti this time round? What next?

Nigeria’s Acting President Gooodluck Jonathan knows too well that in politics, good luck is not enough to climb higher rungs.

Luck has to be complemented by good strategies. One of his Cabinet nominees presented to the Senate is Alhaji Murtala Yar’Adua, President Umaru Yar’Adua’s nephew.

Good lucky Jonathan knows Yar’Adua name is likely to work magic in Senate approval or could this be a deterrent to anyone with intentions to poison his Cabinet?

The tallying jinx continues to haunt the nation in many ways. It will not be until end of August when Kenyans will know census results for an exercise conducted last year.

And this is despite Planning Minister Wycliffe Oparanya’s revelation that the "tallying" officers have been working in shifts, 24 hours a day!

And finally…

Somali pirates have been kings of the high seas for some time now but no crown is forever.

After making millions of shillings and getting bolder every time they attack a big ship, recently they confused a French warship for a commercial ship. Well, the rest is history.
