Uhuru makes more appointments in move seen to tame rebels in his turf

President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration has announced more appointments to various parastatals.

The list of new faces joining Uhuru administration, contained in a gazette notice dated May 7, includes personalities from the academia, media, civil society, the private sector and his close political allies who lost in 2017 polls.

Among those in the list are former Senate Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura, who will chair the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, while former MP Kabando wa Kabando will chair the Local Authority Provident Fund.

Mr Kabando lost the Mukurweini MP seat in the 2017 elections while Mr Gitura lost to Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata.

Former Lamu County MP Shakila Abdala will chair the Child Welfare Society of Kenya for three years.

Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bob Collymore, who is set to step down in August, has been appointed member of the National Cancer Institute alongside veteran journalist Mercy Oburu.

Building Bridges

Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) vice chair Adams Oloo and Peter Ngatia were named to the Kenya School of Government council.

Consumer Federation of Kenya Secretary General Stephen Mutoro will Kenya National Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute and Kenya Fisheries Advisory Council board member.

Others appointed to chair boards were Nelson Ndirangu (Competition Authority), Juvenal Shiundu (Kenya National Shipping Line) and James Wabacha (Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute).

Michael Chege will chair the New Partnership for Africa's Development/Africa Peer Review Mechanism-Kenya governing council.
