Muslim Women threaten unspecified action if NOCK boss Sumayya Athmani is not reinstated

Sumayya Athmani

Muslim Women of Kenya have asked the Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Charles Keter to reinstate Ms. Sumayya Athmani, the CEO for the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) failure to which they will take unspecified action.

Ms. Fatima Hyder on Friday led a group of Muslim women to condemn what they termed crude decision by the Energy CS to suspend the NOCK boss on grounds that her docket had been dogged by some audit queries.

The CS had issued a statement directing the NOCK boss to take compulsory leave to allow some audit queries investigation on her Oil docket.

Ms. Mary Kariuki was appointed as acting CEO by the newly reconstituted board, a move that has infuriated a section of Muslim Women across the Country.

“We cannot condone such ill-informed decision by the CS to suspend the Ms. Athmani. This is tantamount to total character assault, intimidation and harassment of great women leaders who have immensely contributed positively to the rapid growth of the economy of this Country,” Hyder regretted.

The Muslim woman leader while addressing Journalists in Upper Hill Arabian Cuisine Hotel in Nairobi said the suspension of Ms. Athmani by the CS was based on witch-hunt following her exemplary performance in Oil sector.

"Ms. Athmani has proved herself with successful steering of the Corporation. This achievement, in a male dominated sector has made her a first among equals and role model for the women of Kenya as well as the youth and Professional," read part of the Statement.
