Nairobi County threatens to stop construction of a Sh7 billion 40 floor Hazina Towers

Nairobi City

Nairobi, Kenya - Nairobi County has threatened to stop construction of a Sh7 billion 40 floor Hazina Towers for non-compliance with environmental and city regulations.

A letter to the chief executive officer of National Social Security Fund on the ongoing development of Hazina Towers, the County government said it was yet to receive evidence of implementation and compliance of issues it had raised.

The county has not received an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report that has been approved by National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).

The letter by acting county secretary Gregory Mwakanongo said the county government was also yet to receive a traffic master plan indicating mitigating actions to be taken regarding impact on the neighbouring properties.

"These outstanding issues together with the need to renew your building plans following current Nairobi city county regulations should be addressed as a matter of urgency and not later than seven days from the date of this letter," he stated.

The letter by Mwakanongo was dated August 17, 2015 and was copied to Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and China Jiangxi International (K) Company.

It warned that failure to comply will lead to measures by the county government to enforce compliance as laid down by law, which will include stopping the construction.
