25 health centres to be opened in Meru, says Governor Munya

Meru County Government plans to open 25 new health centres in the next 100 days, to ease access to healthcare.

Governor Peter Munya said trekking for long distances to seek health services will be a thing of the past.

“We have had a situation where expectant women and other patients are forced to seek treatment very far, but this will be a thing of the past because we are opening health centres all over the wards. Residents had been forced to seek services at Mikinduri, but now the dispensary is at their doorstep,” said the governor, when he opened the new Kiguchwa Health Centre, in Tigania East.

He also announced that six doctors will be posted to the centre. Munya said the county government is also employing more personnel to man the centres.

“We are employing more health workers to ensure the health centres operate 24 hours a day and we will make sure there is enough medicine,” he said.

“We are upgrading Nyambene Level 4 Hospital. We want to make sure services such as chemotherapy and dialysis are brought closer to the people, so that they do not have to travel to Meru or outside the county,” added Munya.

Earlier in the week, Munya opened dispensaries in Buuri, Igembe Central and Tigania East sub counties.
