Uhuru to issue title deeds in Malindi as caveat placed on ADC Farm

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to visit Kilifi County to issue thousands of title deeds to residents, Lands Chief Administrative Secretary Gideon Mungáro has said.

Mungáro said this when he met residents of Sabaki in Malindi Sub-county to deliberate on repossession of the grabbed Kisiwani ADC farm, on which the government has placed a caveat.

The CAS added that his ministry had prepared more than 80,000 title deeds for Lamu, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Mombasa counties to address landlessness in the region.

“The president is committed to correcting the notion that coastal people have been left out in land ownership because he has elaborate strategies to deal with the land question in this region,” he said.

To ease access to services Mungáro said a lands registry will be opened in Malindi town to serve residents of Malindi and Magarini sub-counties.

“We want people from Magarini, Malindi and parts of Kilifi North constituencies to obtain their land ownership documents without having to travel long distances to Kilifi,” Mung’aro said.

The government has also bought land to resettle squatters.

“The government has already bought 4,000 acres at Msabaha where squatters are being resettled, and with cooperation from all leaders, we believe that we can achieve more,” he said.
