Ndia MP defends NG-CDF amid fight to control kitty

[FIle, Standard] Ndia MP George Kariuki has defended the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) amid growing push by a section of leaders to transfer it to the county government. Mr Kariuki warned that attempts to transfer the fund to county governments, as proposed by ODM leader Raila Odinga, would derail grassroots development. Addressing faithful in Kiangai PCEA on Sunday, the MP dismissed proposals to place the fund under counties, saying NG-CDF model has been instrumental in transforming lives across Kenya. "CDF is one of the best systems of development in this country," said Kariuki. "This is not the time for politics - it is time for working for Kenyans." The MP cited the fund's impact in increasing school enrolment and delivering essential infrastructure projects directly to wananchi without delays due to bureaucracy. He urged leaders to prioritise service delivery over politicking. He called for unity and civility in Mt Kenya, citing the late President Mwai Kibaki as a model of respectful leadership. Kariuki urged regional leaders to stop empty rhetoric and focus on restoring the region's political stature. "It's time for Mt. Kenya to return to its former glory and avoid leaders who lack respect. Even during political differences with President Moi, Kibaki never resorted to insults. That's the kind of leadership we need," he said. On development, Kariuki announced major infrastructure investments in the constituency. The Kiangai Feeder Road is set for an upgrade, with Sh 55 million allocated for tarmacking and drainage works. Additional Sh1 billion has been earmarked for the Kiburu Road project, which is expected to boost trade and mobility in the area. The MP reaffirmed his commitment to delivering tangible results for the people of Ndia, saying his focus remains firmly on development and service delivery.
