Man’s beheaded body sparks fears of Mungiki return

Murang'a, Kenya: Tension gripped Kenol area in Murang’a following the beheading of a man, sparking fears of the reemergence of the outlawed Mungiki sect.

The body of the man said to be a boda boda operator was yesterday found dumped at Gathanji Dam. It had deep cuts, and the eyes were gouged out.

Police recovered a knife believed to had been used in the killing. The deceased is suspected to have been hired by a gang that later killed him.

Murang’a South deputy County Commissioner Karanja Njora assured residents the area was safe from the Mungiki sect. He said the community, through Nyumba Kumi initiative, was on the lookout for criminals.

Leader of boda boda operators in the area Francis Mung’athia urged his colleagues to demand identity of passengers for their own safety.
