Gachagua hits out at MPs for rejecting Monica Juma

Governor Nderitu Gachagua has accused local MPs of betraying President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nyeri voters by rejecting Monica Juma’s nomination as Secretary to the Cabinet.

“The MPs rejected Juma’s nomination on flimsy and petty grounds, claiming she is arrogant and does not accede to their personal demands,” Gachagua said.

During the commissioning of a murram quarry in Kieni constituency, the Governor publicly castigated Kieni MP Kanini Kega, for alleging that President Uhuru is being misled by his advisers, and termed the remarks disrespectful and misguided. “You were not elected to tell the President who he should have as an adviser. Stick to your mandate to represent interest of residents,” he said.

Kega, however, defended himself against the allegations, saying he has been supportive of President Uhuru and to Gachagua’s development projects within his constituency.

Kega said Jubilee legislators would hold a meeting next week to chart a way forward and to give a statement on their stand on the current misunderstandings on the nomination of Ms Juma.

Gachagua, who also challenged the MPs to declare their allegiance to the President, urged the MPs to support the President’s policies and nominations inside and outside Parliament. “It is unfortunate that people supposed to be in the forefront in defending and supporting the President are the ones making it difficult for him to discharge his duties and obligations,” he added.
