Governor, MP clash wrecks Kirinyaga County Mashujaa Day celebration

By MUNENE KAMAU

KIRINYAGA; KENYA: Supremacy battles reigned in Kirinyaga County between the Governor Joseph Ndathi and Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari leading to a disruption of Mashujaa Day celebrations.

The two leaders clashed publicly causing a section of the gathering allied to Gitari to storm out of Kerugoya Stadium.

Gitari’s supporters later regrouped in one corner of the stadium resulting into two meetings within one venue.

It all started when Ndathi announced that he had surrendered his former office within the Kirinyaga County Assembly premises and moved to Kutus township.

“Since I have already moved and settled in my office at Kutus, the county headquarters, I have from this moment surrendered my former office in Kerugoya to Mheshimiwa Gitari as he has already indicated he has no constituency office,” Ndathi said.

It was at that juncture Gitari stood up and waved at the now highly charged crowd, which started shouting down the governor, to the disbelieve of the top government officers present.

Earlier, Gitari had criticised Ndathi for moving the county headquarters to Kutus and allegedly spending a lot of money in renting an office.
