Safaricom’s PostPay customers can now pay their bills through PesaPoint automated teller machines (ATMs) network.

This comes after an agreement between the mobile service operator and leading third party ATM network provider, Pesa Point Limited.

Safaricom chief Executive, Bob Collymore, said the partnership would ease bill payment for the firm’s 40,000 PostPay customers.

"Convenience is a major component of our PostPay proposition," he said at the launch of the service at Safaricom head office in Nairobi.

Account holders

To be eligible for the service, Safaricom PostPay Customers have to be account holders with a bank hooked to the PesaPoint network. The service will not attract charges from Safaricom and PesaPoint. But it would be subject to withdrawal charges by partner banks.

Collymore said the partnership gives Safaricom an opportunity to harness existing infrastructure to give its PostPay customers an additional avenue to pay their of bills.

"We hope this move will bring more convenience to their lives, and frees up capacity on existing bill payment options," he added.

PostPay customers can make bill payments at Safaricom shops, or through M-Pesa money transfer service.

PesaPoint Limited Chief Executive, Bernard Matthewman, welcomed the partnership, saying it would further strengthen relations between the two organisations by providing a payment option to Safaricom customers.

"The uniqueness of PesaPoint option is that it is available on a 24-hour basis to customers," he said.
