Five MPs want their colleagues planning to initiate a vote of no confidence on Prime Minister Raila Odinga to shelve the plan and instead give priority to constitution making.

The five who include four Assistant Ministers Mwangi Kiunjuri, Kabando wa Kabando, Cecil Mbarire and Wavinya Ndeti and MP Kazungu Kambi also said the issue of Leader of Government Business (LGB) should be shelved.

"All other issues are irrelevant and should not be given preference. They stand to divide the country since they are all emotive’ said Mr Kiunjuri.

Instead the MPs said their colleagues should rally behind a deal struck by their PSC members through the Naivasha accord to give Kenyans a new constitution.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament Buildings yesterday the MPs said those out to introduce other issues besides the Constitution should be treated as enemies of this country and the citizens.

"Kenyans want to see a united House focusing on a new constitution. We will not accept anything that will be diversionary from the issue at hand," said Mr Kazungu.

Fight corruption

The statement read by Mr Kabando also urged the two principals to take control of their parties and address the Constitution and the fight against corruption as a team.

"Kenyans expect the two principals to read from the same script, and move as one team united under the desire of addressing the urgent needs of this country," said Kabando.

The MPs expressed concern that the two leaders were captives of the vested interests by their party members. They vowed to root for the continuation of House Speaker Kenneth Marende’s role as Chairman of the House Business Committee.

The move is a slap on the face of PNU members who have resolved to push for the recognition of VP Kalonzo Musyoka as the LGB.
