Kenya Polytechnic University College Principal Francis Aduol has underscored the institution’s commitment in remaining the premier institution of technology and innovation.

While addressing new students at the college’s main campus in Nairobi, Prof Aduol said the institution had overcome the hurdles that came with the elevation of the polytechnic into University College.

“KPUC has successfully completed the development and implementation of its structures. We are the only university that has a deputy principal in charge of partnerships, networks and linkages,” he said, urging students to work hard and embrace new technology.

“This is your new academic journey where you will learn many new things. You chose it consciously and have a great opportunity you must make use of,” he said.
He added that the university had made it compulsory for students to undertake lessons in, culture, health education, and communication, among others.
“We want to mould our students to be holistic, responsible and useful members of the society,” he added.

The principal emphasised on discipline among students, saying it is the cornerstone of academic excellence.
“The university gives scholars and students opportunity to explore academically, gives platform for freedom of thoughts and welcomes fresh ideas. However, such opportunities should not be abused,” he added.
The principal said he hoped KPUC would soon be a fully-fledged university once relevant laws are passed.

KPUC has recorded the highest number of admission this year. More than 2,200 students have been admitted to undertake degree and diploma programmes for academic year 2011/2012. The Joint Admissions Board admissions to various programmes at KPUC stand at 827.
