Governor Wambora told to blacklist contractors who deliver shoddy work

EMBU, KENYA: Embu County Assembly Leader of Minority Lenny Masters Mwaniki has put contractors on notice over what he termed as shoddy works of public projects.

The Kiambere ward MCA said some contractors have shoddy projects that wear out fast denying the public value for their taxes.

Speaking during a tour of county projects in his ward, Mwaniki challenged Governor Martin Wambora to blacklist contractors who do not deliver up to standards works.

He warned that contractors who deliver substandard projects that do not adhere to specifications in the Bills of Quantities (BQs) will be forced to redo the projects at their own expense.

“The County Development fund allocation is supposed to help empower people in the grassroots economically and should not be misused by a few selfish individuals. Contractors must stick to the official drawings as indicated in the contractual paper work and come-up with a standard work to completion,” the legislator noted.

Recently, officials found that some classrooms and toilets in the ward financed by CDF were  built using low standard materials while some have already started wearing out out.

Mwaniki said contractors must give the public value for money by delivering projects that are up to the standards.
