NASA MCAs decide to work with Jubilee counterparts

Members of the County Assembly elected on the National super Alliance’s (NASA) tickets in Western Kenya have resorted to join forces with their Jubilee Party colleagues, forming the Opposition in the assemblies.

Members of the Jubilee Party and Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National congress (ANC) will now team up against the County Government led by Governor –elect Wycliffe Oparanya, who is also the deputy party leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

“ANC will be fighting for the positions of minority leader and minority whip. We want to counter-check the executive. We want to ensure ANC is vibrant in the country…” said Kholera MCA Mr Godliver Omondi.

This suggests that ANC will now fight for its own position as a party and not as the NASA coalition.

ANC managed to get 19 MCA seats in the County Assembly, with ODM getting 33.

The same has happened in Bungoma where Jubilee and ODM MCAs have teamed up to come up with the minority. In this county, ODM has seven MCA seats while Jubilee managed to get 10. Ford Kenya which has 18 seats, also has a member heading the Executive – Mr Wycliffe Wangamati.

According to former Majority elader Mr Majimbo Makumbu, there is no problem if parties decide to team up to make sure they elect an appropriate Speaker.
