Kenya likely to have first Akorino MP

Runyenjes Constituency of Embu County may get into the history books as the first constituency in Kenya to have an Akorino Member of Parliament.

Jubilee Party Runyenjes candidate for National Assembly Eric Muchangi popularly known as 'Karemba' (a vernacular Kiembu name drawn from his Akorino turban) is seeking to unseat Cecily Mbarire who lost to incumbent Embu Governor Martin Wambora in the Jubilee gubernatorial nominations.

Muchangi challenged Mbarire in the 2013 general elections managing to come second in the Runyenjes parliamentary race.

The Akorino aspirant received his much needed endorsement from Uhuru-Ruto during their campaign tour in Embu County.

While addressing the residents of Runyenjes town, Deputy President William Ruto urged the constituents to elect Muchangi as the first Akorino MP in Kenya.

His prospects of clinching the Runyenjes seat are high following the disinterest of the incumbent Mbarire to defend her seat in 2017.
