Standard Group’s Radio Maisha held a major re-launch last night in a fresh move aimed at growing its listener base.
The station is also energising its bid for the top spot in a congested field, and has since promised good things for its listeners.
The relaunch was done on Friday to coincide with a change in its offers, including wider news coverage, a broader range of music selection and the entire programing.
The changes are in response to the findings of a nationwide survey seeking the views of listeners on what would best enable Radio Maisha to be their top choice.
Already, the radio station has recorded a sharp growth on its listenership, having broadly been received as a Kenyan and African music station. The station expects to sustain the growth momentum after the changes are implemented.
“We are only responding to the needs of the market, the change will be exactly what the listeners want from a radio station,” said Tom Japani, the head of Radio Maisha at the Standard Group.
The radio station’s tagline has also changed from ‘Skiza Uone’ to ‘Tuko Pamoja’ to capture its intended message of a countrywide listener base.
Mr Japani brings his wealth of experience in radio operations gained from his time as a senior presenter at the British Broadcasting Channel (BBC).
Radio Maisha and its presenters have won several awards since it went live three years ago.
It has also been the first radio station to enter convergence with television where some of its programmes are also aired live on its sister platform KTN.
