CMC loses Jaguar, Land Rover dealership

By Moses Michira

CMC Motors has lost lucrative dealership to supply Jaguar ad Land Rover vehicles.

The contract has been awarded to RMA Group which will now distribute the vehicles in Kenya.

CMC cried foul after they lost the contract and said that the decision by Jaguar Landrover Exporters Limited to cancel the franchise contract was malicious as discussions between the two firms were ongoing to address concerns raised earlier by the Indian owned car maker.

The troubled local car dealer that is still smarting from shareholder rows over control is evaluating available options to protect its business interests.

“CMC is currently evaluating its options and the remedies available to it with a view of protecting its interests,” said the dealer in a statement to shareholders.

The loss of the lucrative franchise seems set to plunge the dealer further into crisis, as the two vehicle brands are the firm’s mainstay.

Jaguar Land Rover had earlier informed CMC of its intention to terminate the contract in February 2013, indicating of its displeasure on the level of marketing and the quality of showrooms.
