Immediate former deputy Governor of Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Hezron Nyangito has passed on in Nairobi.

Nyangito died in his Karen home where he had been battling cancer and stroke he suffered three years ago.

His death occurs a week after being replaced at CBK. He had been the permanent secretary ministry of health before being moved to CBK in 2008. Governor Njuguna Ndung'u has mourned his death.

Nyangito had spent substantial time in UK on treatment before being brought back and he regularly visited Nairobi Hospital for the same. He had been on medical leave for almost a year.

He was the deputy CBK boss until last week when in his place, Haron Sirma was appointed.

Sirma joined the CBK in 1986 but had been working at the Treasury on secondment as the deputy director of the debt management department since 2004.

Nyangito was named the deputy CBK boss in a reshuffle to replace Jacinta Mwatela who was then named a permanent secretary but declined the position.

The bespectacled agricultural economist had been a director at the policy think-tank the Kenya Institute of Public Policy, Research and Analysis (KIPPRA).

Former NSSF managing trustee Naftali Mogere has also mourned the death of Nyangito.
