Former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi says he is worth Sh700 million.

He was appearing for vetting before the National Assembly's Appointment Committee this Monday morning. The committee is chaired by Speaker Moses Wetangula.

"I have been a very modest public servant with a net worth of about Sh700 million from farming and legal consultancy," Muturi said.

Muturi, who served as Speaker in both the 11th and 12th parliaments, was nominated by President William Ruto as the Attorney General.

The vetting will run until Saturday, October 22, with the exception of Thursday, October 20, when the country will observe Mashujaa Day.

Asked about a matter in the mid 199s where he was accused of soliciting a million-shilling bribe from a hospital owner, Muturi replied "I just wish to inform the committee that case was dismissed as no case to answer. In the judgment, it was described as one built on quicksand."

Vetting programme

Musalia Mudavadi was the first to appear before the committee at 9.00 am.

Muturi was scheduled to appear at 10.30 am, while Defence CS nominee Aden Duale was expected at 11.30 am.

Dr Alfred Mutua who has been nominated to the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs docket was set to face the committee at 2.30pm, while his Water, Sanitation and Irrigation counterpart Alice Wahome would close the day's exercise after her vetting which is slated at 3.30 pm.

Appointment committee

The committee is composed of the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula (chairperson), Nelson Koech (Belgut), Rahab Mukami (Nyeri), Dido Ali Raso (Saku), George Murugara (Tharaka), David Gikaria (Nakuru East), Ferdinand Wanyonyi (Kwanza), Mary Emaase (Teso South), Abdul Rahim Dawood (North Imenti), Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Caleb Amisi (Saboti), Stephen Mule (Matungulu), Abdi Shurie (Balambala), Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West), David Pkosing (Pokot South) and Mishi Mboko (Likoni).
