President William Ruto has pledged Sh200 billion to fund various projects across Nairobi city.

Speaking at a public gathering after inspecting construction works at Gikomba Market on Sunday, Ruto said city residents are focused on growing their hustles, expanding enterprises, and securing better futures for their families.

Accompanied by leaders supporting the broad-based government, the President emphasised that his administration is committed to transforming Nairobi with bold, practical investments. “We are committing Sh200 billion towards constructing 123,000 affordable homes and developing 17 modern markets. This will provide traders with safer, cleaner, and more profitable spaces, as Nairobi is our face to the world,” said Ruto.

The Gikomba Market redevelopment, costing Sh4 billion, will accommodate 15,000 traders. Ruto described it as a national market that deserves decent facilities for all Kenyans acquiring goods for distribution across the country.

He highlighted visible renewal across Nairobi, noting that streets are being lit, roads upgraded, health coverage expanded, and a comprehensive waste management plan is restoring order and cleanliness in neighbourhoods.

Thousands of city residents are benefiting from digital and labour mobility initiatives linking talent to jobs and enterprises. Ruto said the city now represents the face of Kenya to the world. “Most importantly, this transformation is creating opportunities for our youth. Today, 45,000 are earning livelihoods through the Nairobi River clean-up, and another 48,000 are engaged in the affordable housing programme,” he said.

ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga confirmed that Party Leader Oburu Odinga will work closely with Ruto to ensure a clear strategy for the 2027 General Election, allowing the President to complete the projects he has started. Nairobi County MP Esther Passaris, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, Makadara MP George Aladwa, Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch, Langata MP Phelix Odiwuor, and Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri all endorsed Ruto’s re-election bid.
