Three people killed, others injured after bus collides with matatu in Lavington

Nairobi, Kenya: Three people were Monday morning killed and several others injured in an accident involving a matatu and a City Hopper bus at Valley Arcade area in Lavington, Nairobi.
The three were said to be relatives. They were headed for Kawangware when the accident happened. A relative said they were from western Kenya and were visiting when they were killed in the accident near Gitanga Road junction.
“My brother in law, his sister and child have died in the accident. I don’t understand how it happened,” said Collins Mopao, a relative.
The driver of the bus is said to have lost control of the bus and collided with the matatu head on. Witnesses and police say those injured were rushed to hospital.
Nairobi head of traffic Edward Mwamburi said three of those injured were seriously injured following the 6am incident.

“We don’t understand how such an accident can occur at the place but we are investigating,” he said.
Other witnesses said one of the affected vehicles was speeding at the time of the incident.
