Police have arrested two men for allegedly killing their fathers in separate incidents in Othaya and Migori.

In Othaya, a 28-year-old man was arrested in his father’s home in Muriko village, Iriaini North region after his mother found the deceased, Joseph Mubia’s body in the compound.

He had allegedly hit his 70-year-old father with a piece of wood before finishing him off with a rock.

One of the deceased’s grandchildren told the police that she saw the assailant attack the elderly man with a stick, before hurling stones at him.

"He fell on the ground, but the assailant moved to another spot within the compound where he sat until my grandmother came," the child told the police.

Neighbours believe the killing occurred after the two got into a row.

habit

He was said to have a habit of demanding for money or cigarettes from his father who owns a kiosk in the home.

Nyeri South OCPD Adiel Nyange said the man had confessed to the murder, but did not give a reason for committing the act.

"We cannot confirm his state of mind but he will undergo a psychiatric examination," said Nyange.

Other relatives had gone to church and left the two at home when the incident occurred.

The suspect’s sister, Jane Wachingi, said her brother had a mental problem and had at one time been hospitalised as a result of the same. She, however, said he had never attacked anyone before.

The body was taken to Mukurwe-ini District Hospital Mortuary.

Elsewhere in Migori town, police are holding a middle-aged man who is suspected of hacking his father to death in a domestic row at Ogwedhi village, Migori District.

According to the police, problems started between the two after the 27-year-old man had sent away his first wife to marry a second woman, a move his father did not approve of.

The enraged man lost his temper when his father brought back the first wife and insisted he should live with her.

slashed father

"The man took a panga and slashed the father several times," said an eyewitness.

The father died on his way to the Migori District Hospital.

Police from Ogwedhi Police Post arrived in time to save the man from an angry mob.

Area police boss Alfred Makoma confirmed the case on Monday saying the man will be taken to court.

The body of the deceased is lying at the Migori District Hospital Mortuary.
