Nine students and a teacher have been arrested in connection with the murder of a college principal in Matungulu District two weeks ago.

Kangundo DCIO Wanderi Mwangi led detectives to Hermaton Teachers College on Wednesday afternoon where they took eight students into custody.

The operation began in Tala town where a teacher, whom police believe was responsible for the attack of the late Catherine Wangeci, was arrested.

Minutes later, the detectives returned to the college where they interrogated the students before arresting eight of them.

A male student reportedly led police officers to a septic tank in the college where he had hidden a hammer that he used to batter the woman to death.

Police are still digging out the septic tank in search of a sword that is yet to be recovered. It took police four hours to empty the septic tank in search of the killer weapon as an odoriferous smell filled the air.

Wangeci was brutally murdered two weeks ago just a few meters from her house within the college compound.
