IIEC rejects nomination papers of Kaddu aspirants

Six candidates have been cleared to run for the Kitutu-Masaba parliamentary seat.

But there was confusion after the Interim Independent Electoral Commission rejected nomination papers from two Kaddu candidates.

Mr Phillip Bosire and Mr Nyameino Atuti were blocked from submitting their nomination papers until they resolved the dispute with the party.

The party’s Nyanza regional co-ordinator Justus Rasugu blamed the party’s head office for the confusion that led to issuance of two certificates.

"I don’t understand what is going on at the head office. We are the people on the ground to know the popular candidate. The right person who should have the party ticket is Phillip Nyauncho," said Mr Rasugu.

He claimed the two certificates were issued by the Kaddu treasurer and another one by the secretary general.

Mr Atuti claimed he was the first one to obtain the certificate and wondered how the party issued the second one.

The certificates shown to The Standard indicated that they were both issued at the head office and were signed by Kaddu leader Cyrus Jirongo, but issued by different party officials.

Candidates

Immediate former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati was among the first candidates to present his nomination papers and exuded confidence that he would win the elections.

Others who presented their nomination papers included former PS Zachary Ogongo (Narc), Okibo Motari (National Vision Party), Atati Kengere (KSC), Shadrack Mose (KNC) and Mwancha Okioma (Ford People).

"Kitutu Masaba needs quality leadership that can make good use of little time to bring development to the people," ODM candidate Timothy Bosire said.

Mr Bosire claimed the past leadership was not accountable to the people and cited poor state of infrastructure.
