Police swoop nets over 50 street families

More than 50 beggars, hawkers and street families were arrested in a sting operation that was launched by a squad that was formed to address the menace.

The operation was conducted on River Road, Mombasa Road and some city streets. The team also targeted parking boys, some who have been blamed for theft of motor vehicle spare parts.

Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa said the operation would continue in the city in a bid to get rid of individuals who have been blamed for criminal activities.

"We have teamed up with the police in rounding up those who have refused to leave. Motorists do not need parking boys to show them where to park," said Aladwa.

Register

Yesterday, Starehe DC Ben Gachichio renewed his call to beggars and street families in the city to register with authorities to enable them get a monthly food ration and money instead of flocking city streets daily.
