Police accused of inaction in defiler's case

Police have been accused of letting a randy defiler scot-free after he allegedly assaulted his child and a neighbour’s.

Residents of Eldoret North yesterday protested over police failure to arrest the man who allegedly defiled his daughter, 13, and impregnated a Class Five girl, 14. His daughter is in Class Four and both are pupils of Barsombe Primary School.

Residents now accuse the officers of failing to arrest the culprit whom they claim has been ‘misbehaving’ for close to a year.

Gone into hiding

Those who talked to The Standard said they reported the incidents at Moiben Police Station in August and no action has been taken so far.

"Every time we follow up the progress of the case, officers claim the suspect has gone into hiding," said Mary Kiplimo, a parent.

Efforts to get comment from Uasin Gishu OCPD John Katumo were fruitless. He said he was in a meeting.

The minors had both been taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for examination and treatment.

Meanwhile, residents of Keiyo North District are accusing athletes training in the area of impregnating pupils and students.

They said the incidents have reached alarming levels and have threatened to evict them from the area if action is not taken against the perpetrators.

Area District Education Officer Nicodemus Anyang’ confirmed the increasing pregnancy cases.

"Investigation we conducted show athletes training in camps in the area and teachers were responsible for the pregnancies," said Anyang’.
