We recognise only one mayor, PS tells Kisii council

By Beauttah Omanga

Ousted Kisii Mayor Samuel Nyangeso got a reprieve as Local Government Ministry stood by him.

PS Karega Mutahi told The Standard the removal of the mayor was illegal, arguing he was recognised as holder of the office of mayor.

Expressed shock

Prof Karega expressed surprise that the clerk, who was away at the time, had allowed an illegality to stand.

But a section of the councilors vowed not to let Nyangeso back.

Last week, Nyangeso and his deputy Patrick Siro were replaced by Edward Nyamweya and Jane Justine.

But Karega said all chief officers of all local authorities must adhere to the law and avoid being sucked into politics.

Nyangeso said he had tried in vain to gain access to the parlor and accused chief officers of colluding with the councilors.
