Envoy denies foreign nations taking side

British High Commissioner Rob Macaire has defended the international community against accusations it is meddling with the constitutional review.

Mr Macaire said the push by foreign countries on the Government to implement reforms should not be misconstrued to mean they support the Proposed Constitution.

Speaking in Nyeri’s Outspan Hotel during a session with local journalists, Macaire said despite the international community’s insistence the Coalition Government undertakes reforms, it was non-partisan on the draft.

He said it was upon Kenyans to decide if they wanted the new law or not.

"We are not engaging in any politics. It is not our job to tell Kenyans how to vote and I do not believe there is any country that would want to dictate or meddle with the process that is purely for Kenyans," said Macaire.

He added: "We meet as representatives of the EU and I can confidently state that none of the member states is affiliated to any side."
