Warder shoots women for rejecting sexual advances

Police in Kisumu have launched a manhunt for a prison warder who shot and wounded three women.

Witnesses said the women allegedly rejected the warder’s sexual advances.

Nyanza deputy PPO Larry Kieng’ said two employees of a local public hospital, who were with the warder, have been arrested.

Mr Kieng’ said the suspects went to the estate allegedly in search of chang’aa and tried to force their way into the house where the three women live.

"The women wondered why the officer and his friends visited them early in the morning and declined to open the door. The warder to broke into the house," police chief said.

Miss Rebecca Kerubo, 20, Miss Beatrice Nyanjira, 20, and Miss Irene Kerubo, 19, were taken to the provincial hospital for treatment.

Rebecca was admitted to Nyanza Provincial Hospital following last Thursday’s dawn attack at Moscow Estate, Kisumu. The two others shot in the arm and leg, were treated and discharged on Friday.

The deputy PPO said the warder rushed back to his station at the Kibos Prison where he hid the gun under the bed and disappeared.
