Youth to receive Sh5b for employment creation

By Joel Okwayo

The Government will set aside more than Sh5 billion to cater for youth development activities in the Budget.

Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi said the money would be for youths to start income-generating projects.

Mr Mudavadi said the ‘Kazi Kwa Vijana’ programme would ensure most ministries are allocated funds to be used by the youth for creation of jobs.

Mudavadi was speaking at Solongo Youth Polytechnic in his Sabatia constituency Vihiga District.

Mudavadi was accompanied by local DC William Kiprono, District Forest Officer Wilson Okanda and local District Education Officer Daniel Mosibei.

Mr Okanda said the department plans to plant more than 20,000 trees under the ‘Kazi kwa Vijana’ programme.

Yesterday, Mudavadi said the ministries of Roads, Public Works and Forestry had been given more money because they would be required to undertake more projects at the grassroots.

The Local Government minister said clearing bushes on road reserves would be a preserve of the youth.
