I’m free to date Akinyi, says Wanjala

Former Assistant Minister Raphael Wanjala has broken his long silence and revealed his tribulations in India.

Addressing supporters at his homecoming ceremony in Budalang’i, the former MP gave an account of his arrest and detention at a New Delhi jail.

Mr Wanjala said the public was misinformed about what he went through with Joyce Akinyi for the six months they were away. He said they were in jail for only three weeks and not 100 days, as reported in the media.

"The rest of the months I lived comfortably in New Delhi," he said.

On his relationship with Akinyi, Wanjala said he did not understand why some people were critical.

"Why can’t a woman be attracted to a handsome man like me?" he asked, amidst shouts of approval from supporters at Port Victoria, Busia.

He said Akinyi was free to date him since she was an adult. Those present included Lands Assistant Minister Wakoli Bifwoli and MPs Cyrus Jirongo (Lugari) and Eugene Wamalwa (Saboti).

"Many people have many wives or girlfriends, what makes Wanjala’s case so special?" asked Jirongo.

Mr Bifwoli said Wanjala was the first man to have many wives.
