Manyuru: City demon remover, miracle boss has diehard followers

Apostle Peter Manyuru is not a stranger to many not only among city residents but also thousands of his followers in the country.

For about a decade the founder of Jesus Teaching Ministry has been running his church in Nairobi's downtown, around Wakulima market.

His sermons that revolve around casting out demons are equally televised on channels associated with the preacher.

Probably to move away from hustles and bustles of the city market, the preacher has since moved to a prime area within Greenspan Mall.

Here his makeshift church sits in a prime plot of about five acres where the opulent folks of Eastlands reside.

Even so, the makeshift church made of white tents with protruding roofs fills to the brim not only on Sundays but also during night vigils commonly known as Kesha.

It is in the same area that the preacher is said to be planning to put up a costly church to accommodate thousands of his followers.

With time Manyuru who is rated among the richest preachers in the city has gained fame to his followers who praise him for 'instant' miracles.

During live deliverance services, Manyuru is regularly heard 'commanding' out demons before allowing the liberated followers to testify.

More often he tells the followers that the more one gives, the higher the chances of shaking off the evil spirits and the only route to unlocking blessings.

To supplement the tithes and offerings, one has an option of buying anointing oil, water, T-shirts and other items.

In 2015, the preacher came into the limelight after a fake certificate expose scam at Nairobi Aviation College, of which he was the chairperson.

With time, he has caught the eyes of prominent politicians in the country, including President William Ruto.

On the last weekend before August 9 general elections the Deputy President Ruto attended a church service and prayer session at Jesus Teaching Ministries in Greenspan.

"The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way. - Deuteronomy 28:7. Church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry in Kayole, Nairobi County with leaders Musalia Mudavadi, Johnson Sakaja, Kimani Ichung'wah, Millicent Omanga, Njoroge Muchiri, Francis Mureithi, among others," Ruto shared after the service.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja also has a soft spot for the church.

On November 22, Governor Sakaja hosted the preacher at his City Hall office.

After the meeting, the Governor Posted, "Apostle Peter Manyuru of Jesus Teaching Ministry came by for a courtesy call today. Grateful for the support and prayers,"

About 2 years ago, a local daily in its investigations linked the preacher to selling anointed handkerchiefs and pens for Sh1000 and the same amount for appointment.
