Suspected cattle rustlers attacked Kasiela village in Marigat District, Baringo County, and  stole over 200 goats.

Villagers said 10 bandits attacked their homes at 6pm on Wednesday and fled with the animals.

Wilson Wendot, the owner of the goats, said his stock was headed home from the grazing field when the rustlers threatened to shoot the boy who was herding them.  They rounded them up and run away towards East Pokot area.

“It was 6pm in the evening when the boy who was herding informed me that the goats had been stolen by the raiders and we reported to the chief, who then alerted the police,” said Wendot.

Marigat OCPD Otulia Kaunya confirmed the raid saying that the police in collaboration with Kenya Police Reservists in the area pursued the rustlers who engaged them in a shoot out.

“We responded to the raid just in time and our officers exchanged fire with the suspects and luckily no one was injured. We overpowered them and they fled leaving some goats behind,” said Kaunya.
