Steve and Keith go head to head in Athi

By Feverpitch Reporter

Defending champion Steve Anthony hopes to outpace Keith Henrie at the sixth round of the National Autocross Championship at Athi River track on Sunday.

With 44points to spare and two more rounds left, Anthony reckons eclipsing Keith is inevitable.

Anthony leads buggy series with 118 points and enjoys a 16-point cushion from Keith who has overtly offered the strongest opposition to Anthony so far.

But Anthony reckons that the pressure is more on Keith as a good finish in the remaining two rounds will see the former five times motocross open class and twice Group N champion retain the coveted title.

"Keith has been my main competitor this season and I always try to keep ahead of him. If I win on Sunday and he (Keith) comes second, then I will have realised a gap of 21 points; which is quite a big margin and only a non-finish will stop me from retaining the championship in the last round," said Anthony.

Anthony believes that his win in Mombasa was reassuring and very important, "as it stabilised the championship."

Others expected to feature in the event are Mombasa based Karan Rathod and Tanveer Singh Oshan.

Eighteen-year-old Ken Anunda is also hoping to improve on his position on the table and so are the likes of Samir Khan, former Autocross champions Ricky Aslam and Simon Sharpe.

Charles Mugo will be hoping to safeguard his third position in the table hoping also to keep Samir at bay.

The event, organised by the East African Motor Sports Club, will feature two categories namely Budget class and the Open class, according to Additional Supplementary Regulations (ASRs).

The Budget Class is any four-wheeled vehicle, Two Wheel Drive (Quads not permitted) with a maximum engine capacity of 1,500cc also with single carburator, single camshaft and normally aspirated.

Open Class is any four-wheeled vehicle (Quads Not Permitted) with a limit to Engine Capacity of 3500cc normally aspirated, or turbo charged with 34mm restrictor.
