Riders ready for action at Jamhuri Park

The fifth round of the Kenya National Motocross Championship gets underway at Jamhuri Park this Sunday with several riders hoping to rise up in ranking in the competition.

Clerk of Course Dave Anunda and his deputy Peter Wanday have put together an exciting set up, with a designated Spectator Point facing spectacular jumps.

Scrutiny of the bikes will be done by Bobby Khan and Engineer Guya. On Sunday, the program starts with the scrutiny at 8.30am, followed by the riders briefing an hour later.

A one-hour practice session has been planned to run between 9.45 to 10.45am preceding the official heats at 10.45am and posting of results at 5.30Pm. Leaders Cruze Muigai (MX2), David Murigi (MX50), Ivan Guya (MX85), Samir Anwar (MX65) and Shivam Vinayak (MX1) are optimistic of victory, with the series retuning to the familiar Jamhuri Park territory.

Muigai anticipates stiff opposition at his MX 2 class, with his cousin Tutu Maina raring to go. Other MX 2 entries include Ken Anunda and Salim Walo Mohammed.

Tutu, who suffered mishaps during the Athi round, admits other riders at MX2 are getting faster and should provide stiff competition. The 50cc class is also expected to produce fireworks, with leader David Murigi in action.

Murigi will face off with Rolf Kihara, Ryan Bailey and newcomer Xavian Wali Mohammed. Samir Anwar takes on Owain Ashley, Githuku Mungai, Jeremy Waithaka, Alvin Mungai, and of course, his own brother Mohammed Anwar. Vinayak at MX1 and Anwar at MX65 are the only riders with maximum points.

The rest have lost some heats, but still cling onto their lead in the eight-leg Championship. Vinayak’s faces Ian Duncan, Tej Sehmi and Enduro Champion Harry Guelker will be breathtaking. But the MX1 competition will witness father- and-son rivalry. All-rounder Charles Mugo takes on his father Moses Mugo.
