Taita Taveta County, who have been a dominant force in athletics in Coast region for over two decades, are expected to face a litmus test during this weekend’s cross country championships.

The county has been the side to beat in both senior and junior races but Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa counties have recently posed a major threat to the champions.

All the six counties that form Coast region named their representatives last weekend during county championships.

Athletics Kenya (AK) Mombasa County Secretary Beatrice Taita said the championships will be on Saturday from 7am at Shimo La Tewa High School

“We shall use the regional championships to select a team for the national cross country championships to be held on January 22 in Eldoret,” said Taita.

Athletes will compete in different races including 10km for both men and women, 8km for both junior men and women, 5km for boys and girls under 18 years and relay races.
