Kenya’s track and field governing body, Athletics Kenya, has started ordinary membership registration in line with the Sports Acts 2013. The countrywide exercise, which will run till February 28, is expected net 36,100 members from the current number of 4,120. The announcement was made yesterday following an AK regional chairmen and executive members consultative meeting at Riadha House. All the chairmen were issued with receipts and registration forms.
AK, which consists of twelve regions and four institutions, which includes Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Police Service and Universities will conduct the registration from national, regional, country, sub-country and ward levels.

“Federations cannot exist without members and for the first time we are registering members at the lowest (ward) level. And also producing guidelines according the sports act 2013,” said Tuwei.

The registration committee to oversee the exercise will be chaired by Coast Region chairman and AK assistant treasurer Dimmy Kisalu.

“The region and institutional chairmen will be in charge of the exercise in their respective areas,” Kisalu said. Membership is open to any athletics enthusiast in Kenya and registration fee is pegged at Sh500.
