IAAF’s head of event operations Carlo De Angeli said more needs to be done as Kenya prepares to host the 2017 World Under-18 Championships.
Angeli toured Kasarani Stadium and Kenyatta University, venues for the athletics championships and said renovations on the facilities needed to be hurried up. KU will be used as the games’ village.
“As IAAF, I’m happy to see the progress being made by LOC. The committee took me for a tour and it offers good setting for the championships, however, the warm-up track and competition track are not up to standard and need to be changed,” said De Angeli.
“We are also concerned with security, but it’s a problem everywhere. We have been assured of security around the stadium and other venues that will host the IAAF families.”
The 2017 Games’ CEO, Mwangi Muthee, said structures are in place and tendering will start this week.
“We have some details we need to sort out. Tendering for technical equipment will start this week. We have so much to work on,” said Muthee.
The games will be in July 12-16, 2017.
