The Greats 2022: Eighth Pulse Music Video Awards launched

[Silas Otieno, Standard] The journey to award the best Kenyan music video creators of 2022 has kicked off with the launch of this year's Pulse Music Video Awards (PMVA). This year's awards are labelled PMVA - The Greats. The awards were launched in a colourful event today, a ceremony held at the Standard Group PLC, and attended by some of this year's partners among them East Africa Breweries Plc (EABL) through their Kenya Cane brand. The launch was also witnessed by some of the past PMVA winners as well as judges who will be part of this year's journey. Bigger and better, the 8th edition introduces fresh categories giving it a wider national reach. The new slots will include seven regional music categories comprising of stars who have made a major impact in their regions and also contributed to the growth of Kenya's music and cultural diversity. This year's awards have been christened PMVA - The Spirit of Kenya - The Heart Beat of Entertainment. The awards will maintain the competitive Video Vixen of the Year, Male Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration of the Year and New Wave Video of the Year categories. Others are Best Breakthrough Video of the Year, Best Group Video of the Year, Video Director of the Year and Viewer's Choice of the Year. Submissions of videos in all these categories officially opened on the PMVA website www.standardmedia.co.ke/pmva "I want to thank our partners EABL for getting with us in this journey. Pulse Music Video Awards - The Greats - is part of our commitment to being the home of entertainment. We as a media house want to support a thriving ecosystem of artistes and entertainment, an industry that in our country has great potential on creatives," said the Standard Group Editor-in-Chief Ochieng Rapuro. "Here we are launching a process that will take about three weeks culminating in the award ceremony on December 18. This time around, we are building back legends and we would like to ensure that we bring to you a PMVA that is like no other," he said. Speaking during the launch, Kennedy Mutula, the Marketing Manager - EABL, Branded Spirits said PMVA - The Greats - is an inclusive platform that brings together artistes across many genres from all over Kenya and pays homage to Kenyan music legends past and present. "Music has a far-reaching influence on world culture and development. It symbolizes diversity in our life, and nurtures a creative spirit as it spreads joy and appreciation. Similarly, Kenya Cane is known for its rich history of delivering quality drinks that celebrate every moment. It is a beverage proudly made in Kenya by Kenyans that has not only embedded itself in many significant memories but is also a marker of our experiences," said Mutula. He said PMVA Awards - The Greats - by Kenya Cane is an inclusive platform that brings together artistes across many genres from all over Kenya and pays homage to Kenyan music legends past and present. One of a kind, PMVA is the only annual music award in the region that truly celebrates homegrown music talent. Voting by fans contributes 40 per cent of the overall score. The rest of the scoring is arrived during the judging process. The entries require that submitted videos must be by a Kenyan artiste or artistes with the video released in the year ahead of the PMVA unveiling date.
