President William Ruto has vowed not to hand over power to the opposition, claiming they have no plan for the country’s progress beyond promoting tribalism.

Speaking in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, during a church service at Kivaywa Primary School, the Head of State questioned the opposition’s intentions, saying they lack a clear agenda for Kenyans.

“These other people (opposition) have no plan, don’t waste time on them. We will not hand over power to people who have no plan,” Ruto said.

He added, “Their only plan is that ‘Ruto must go.’ How will that help Kenyans and the country?”

Ruto criticised opposition leaders, including Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i describing them as incapable of transforming the country.

“These people cannot do anything. They just want to tell stories. Will you accept the mere rhetoric of people who have no plan?” he asked the congregation.

Ruto accused the opposition of promoting tribalism, division, and hatred, speaking with an angry and harsh tone towards Kenyans.

He urged the opposition not to involve Kenyans in their personal battles, but to face him politically and on development issues.

“If they have a problem with me, they should come and face me. I will dismantle them. The important thing is to plan how to create jobs for our youth, improve education and healthcare. That should be the priority for Kakamega, Western Kenya, and the nation,” said Ruto.

He blamed stalled projects on unfair previous budgets, but defended the 2025/2026 budget, which he said addresses all regions fairly.

“People of Kakamega and Western Kenya have long suffered from unbalanced budgets. This time, we have allocated Sh2 billion for roads from Kakamega Airstrip to Shinyalu and Chepsonoi,” Ruto said.

He also announced Sh3 billion for electrification to connect 35,000 households in Kakamega by year-end and pledged to seek funds for roads linking Lironi, Mausamiti, Eldoret, Bungoma, and Malaba, as well as completing the Standard Gauge Railway to Malaba, among other projects.
