Police officers whose tenure at a station has exceeded three years have been ordered to transfer immediately.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki made the pronouncement on Friday, March 8, urging all police officers to comply.

Speaking in Muranga County, Kindiki said the directive aims to eliminate conflict of interest and guard against internal sabotage in the security sector.

"We have talked about this issue of three-year transfer for too long and I just want to communicate that all officers from all the agencies who have served in one station for 3 years and above will be transferred starting this morning," he said.

According to the CS, officers, especially those who have stayed in one post for too long are now using their positions to support illegal operations in the country, despite it being against the law.

"There has been a problem of officers who have stayed in one station for long. They have become part of the local community and they are the ones who have entered into an unholy alliance with some of the people who are destroying the country...They're the ones who even arrange protection fees for them," said Kindiki.

The Interior Ministry boss urged officers to comply and asked the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome to ensure that the directive has been followed to the latter.

The CS was in Muranga County where he met with the County's security team in efforts to crack down on manufacturers, sallers, and consumers of illicit liquor and narcotic drugs.
