Security officers seize contraband goods, arrest three Somalis in Machakos

Three Somali nationals have been apprehended with contraband goods worth millions of shillings in Machakos.

Security officers in Machakos County arrested three Somali nationals and seized contraband goods worth millions of shillings on Thursday.

The officers intercepted a military truck carrying 290 bags of sugar and 100 cartons of milk at a roadblock at Kivandini area along the Garissa-Thika highway. The goods had been smuggled into the country from Somalia.

According to a police report filed at Matuu police station in Yatta, the truck was spotted by a multi-agency team of officers from Kanyonyo who alerted their colleagues in the area.

The three suspects, who are believed to be aliens, were locked up at Matuu police station as investigations are ongoing. The driver and his co-driver of the truck were also arrested.

Detectives probing the matter said the foreigners were headed to Nairobi’s Eastleigh where they operate a business.

The contraband goods were taken to Matuu police station for further examination
