Mugithi artiste Lawrence Njuguna popularly known as DJ Fatxo has been cleared of murder charges in the death of Jeff Mwathi due to lack of evidence, his lawyers say.

DJ Fatxo's lawyer Duncan Okatch had written to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji with an aim to have findings into Mwathi's death revealed.

"It is clear that there is no shed or iota of evidence to suggest any remote criminal culpability by our client [DJ Fatxo] or suspicion thereof. In fact, it is very clear that our client was not even at his house at the material time that his friend, Jeff Mwathi met his death," lawyer Okatch said in a statement.

"Our client is happy that the truthful position he has always espoused and maintained with regard to his innocence has come out at last."

The lawyer further noted that the office of the DPP has also requested an inquest into the matter.

DJ Fatxo expressed gratitude to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and DPP for clearing his name.

"He is very thankful to the DCI and ODPP for exhibiting great standards of professionalism, independence and focus despite the clearly orchestrated public and social media machinations to obfuscate the truth, injuring our client and his reputation with a consequential heavy detrimental effect," said Okatch.

An initial report filed at the Kasarani Police Station stated that Mwathi committed suicide by jumping from the 12th floor of a building on the night of February 22, 2023.

At the time, Mwathi was visiting DJ Fatxo's residential apartment at Redwood apartment on Thika Road.

Mwathi's family had dismissed the report and called on the DCI to conduct thorough investigations.
