TSC to retrain 30,000 teachers being recruited

''All the teachers who will be recruited in the ongoing exercise will be put on a retooling regime that will ensure they adequately attend to our junior secondary school learners,'' Macharia said and added that the 2,376 master trainers have been prepared.

The exercise started early this month and will run till April this year.

''Already, we have trained 2,376 master trainers ahead of the retooling exercise of all the new teachers and others currently teaching in secondary schools. We target to train 90,000 teachers between now and April 2023,'' Macharia said.

She also assured teachers of the commission's intention to better their health service as it is a key component for them to deliver.

"On Teachers Medical Health Scheme, I wish to inform teachers that we have enhanced their benefits under the medical insurance scheme and made it better for our teachers,'' Macharia said.

Last year, TSC introduced medical cover for all teachers and their immediate families which included diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases such as cancer.

"I encourage the teachers to take time to familiarise themselves with all the enhanced features of the scheme to ensure they, and their families, make full use of it whenever they need medical services,'' Macharia said, adding that she put on hold teachers transfer to avoid disruption of schools operations during Covid-19 pandemic.

She said that the commission has however effected the transfer of 14,733 teachers including principals of secondary schools, deputy principals, head teachers and deputy head teachers of primary schools to places of their choice.

They will report to their new stations from Monday when schools open for First Term.
