Learners to get food rations to stay in school ahead of exams

With the assistance of the Kenya Red Cross Society, the millers association will deliver directly to schools in some of the affected counties or to Kenya Red Cross distribution centres.

CMA's chairman Kamaldeep Phull said they have committed to supporting schoolgoing children in various counties by providing food during the examination period between November to December.

"We are experiencing the worst drought in over 40 years which has resulted in extreme hunger and starvation. This program aims to feed school learners and provide much-needed nutrition as they sit for their examinations, a very critical point in their education journey," said Phull.

Phull was speaking Saturday during the flagging off of the food donation from CMA members at Kenya Red Cross Society offices in South C, Nairobi.

The donation, which will benefit 61,000 school-going children in 150 schools will go to Meru, Garissa, Marsabit, Tana River, Samburu, Makueni, Kajiado, Nyeri, Machakos and Nyeri counties.

Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Asha Mohammed lauded the millers for their donation, assuring them that they will use their humanitarian work experience and vast network to ensure the food donation reaches the intended counties and beneficiaries.
